What happens in Winter Camp?

  • Gentle Nudges

We all know we should move more, get outdoors, connect with people – we feel better when we do! But it’s extra hard in the winter. Each day in Winter Camp, you’ll get a reflective prompt in your inbox to help nudge you in a happier, healthier direction.

  • Connection

Winter Camp has a private community portal. (It’s not a Facebook group.) The daily prompts will also be posted there, so you can share your thoughts, read about others’ experiences, and get that sweet boost of connection.

  • Cabin Fun

As a Winter Camper, you can join cabins — a smaller group connected by a hobby, creative practice, or other interest.

  • Live Gatherings

You’ll be invited to a virtual sessions around movement or creative practice, such as dance, yoga, mindfulness, or writing. (This is not a webinar. It’s more like a cozy coffee shop meetup.) Winter Camp for Creatives and Winter Camp Classic will have slightly different gatherings, so check out each camp’s details below.

Part of the magic of Winter Camp is meeting fellow kind humans and sharing your experience of this season.

Themes of Winter Camp

  • Connection

Being together with other people can be nurturing and supportive. You join a virtual community that values kindness and thoughtfulness, and takes steps to nurture health.

  • Light

Bright light — from the sun or from a sun lamp — helps set your body’s daily rhythm. You’ll be encouraged to develop a daily habit of viewing light early in each day.

  • Outdoors

The cold, dark season can keep us trapped inside. Yet the wintry world can be magical. A quiet walk in the woods can be restorative. You’ll be supported in whatever way outdoor exploration works for your body.

  • Move

Bodies love movement – from stretching your shoulders to wiggling your toes to dancing in your socks. You’ll be invited to virtual gatherings that feature dance, yoga, and more.

  • Brightness & Creativity

The dimness of the season can seep into so much of our perspective. Together, we’ll explore vivid colors and creative practices, including crafting poems and other art.

  • Nourishment

How we fuel our body matters — with light, with connection, with movement, and with food. You’ll receive simple, hearty recipes that can help set you up for a healthy winter.

FAQs

When is Winter Camp?

Winter Camp is a virtual gathering to help with the cold, dark season. Winter Art Camp is a special January session focused on launching a year of creative practice.

What happens in Winter Camp?

Winter Camp is designed to help support you in the cold, dark season. You’ll get a weekday morning reflective prompt in your email to help nudge you around one of the six themes of Winter Camp (light, connection, movement, brightness & creativity, nourishment, and outdoors). You can answer on your own or in the Winter Camp portal, where you can also read others’ reflections, and join in conversation. Just having those “good morning” notes can help start your day off with a happy spark.

Winter Camp was created to be a kind, joyful interactive community, not a webinar, not a course, not a series of content you download. We encourage you to comment on people’s replies, post your own questions and ideas, and make new friends.

We will also gather for live virtual sessions around movement or a creative practice.

It’s all online? How does that work?

Yes, it’s all online, though you are welcome to gather local friends to do Winter Camp together.

There are three virtual areas in Winter Camp:

  • Live virtual gatherings on Zoom around movement or creativity.

  • Daily prompts are emailed to you (and posted in the private portal) to help nudge you each day toward a better winter.

  • Winter Camp portal is a private website only for campers, where you can share thoughts about the prompts, connect, and support each other.

Important note:

Nothing at Winter Camp is medical advice. What works for one person may not work for another, so please use good sense and always ask a healthcare professional if you have questions or concerns. Nothing is required. You can always skip a movement or prompt if it doesn’t feel right to your body or mind.

What’s the difference between Winter Camp and Winter ART Camp?

Both sessions are built around the same format with regular prompts, a private community portal, and virtual gatherings.

Both are designed to provide connection and community.

Both focus on the six themes that help in the winter: connection, light, movement, nourishment, outdoors, and creativity.

Winter ART Camp focuses on creativity. It’s held in January to help launch you into a creative year ahead.

In Winter Art Camp, campers pick a project to focus on for the four weeks. It might be getting back into nature photography, writing a series of essays, or experimenting with watercolors. The virtual gatherings include both time to create together and time to think more deeply about your creative practice and what you need to support it in the year to come. This session is set up to give you a springboard for your creative practice with an intensive 4 weeks with other artists in January.

Where do I sign up?

Camp sessions will restart in late 2024. Sign up below to get updates and alerts about when registration opens.
